Faster way to get temporary hair dye out?
I recently dyed my hair almost black using a temporary dye that lasts through 28 shampoos. Unfortunately, the color is way too dark and looks pretty bad. Is there any way that I can get the color to fade sooner? I don’t want to re-dye my hair…
There are quite a few ways to get dye out of your hair.
Washing your hair is is a cheap and cheerful way to get dye out faster. By choosing the right products, like an astringent – you can get rid of most of the dye with very minimal damage. Try using a detergent or strong hand soap like dawn, or palmolive and really massage it into towel dried hair. Then, wrap entire head in a shower cap and let sit. You can also do this with a heavy duty shampoo like head and shoulders and it will remove dye effectively.
You can do this process daily to remove dye, as long as you remember to condition properly.
You can also try a home remedy that lifts dye really well. This remedy is also good as it doesn’t damage the hair, and can be repeated until desired color is reached.
Buy some Vitamin C tablets (buy ones with no added ingredients like sugar or flavouring) and crush them into a powder. Stir 1 part of the Vitamin C powder with 2 parts shampoo, and rub the mixture into towel dried hair. Leave on on for an hour , preferably in a shower cap and then wash out thoroughly and condition as normal.
If all of the above mixtures and home remedies get you nowhere, you can always try an at home color remover before going the re-dye route. Run to your nearest drug store and pick up a product called Color Oops, or Color-fix, or something similar. They work by opening the hair shaft and breaking up the color molecules so they sort of ‘wash away’ and they return hair back to it’s natural color.
